Apparently in the last month or so a Pop Supergroup was formed featuring one member of Fountains of Wayne, one from Cheap Trick, one from Smashing Pumpkins, and one from Hanson. Taylor Hanson and James Iha in a band? Yes. Well, maybe is more like it. It is still unknown if this is an actual band or just some kind of media stunt...but with a video like this I'm hoping for it to come to fruition with a tour and a t-shirt I can rock.

Apparantly spending Valentines Day with your BFF since High School eating cupcakes and watching Air Bud is strange to some. Considering the whole reason I flew him to SF was to see NoFX at Thee Parkside on Valentines Day somewhat solidified him as my heterosexual lifemate. And how was the show, well thanks for asking! Seeing NoFX in a 20x30 room was the most amazing show I've been to. in my life. I've seen a lot of shows but never one where the band was so engaging and stoked to be playing. I've seen NoFX probably 20 times...always the same ol' show. How was this one different? They were more stoked to be playing Thee Parkside than I was to be there, thats why. Venue size makes all the difference. That and pissing on the Art Academy busses. I didn't expect them to bust out Radio, or even more than 2 songs where El Hefe plays the trumpet.

Now you ask, "where does the puke in the pocket come in?" Well, it comes in at the 500 club after a strategically (albeit stupid) placed shot of Chartreuse amidst massive beer drinking. Friday was a good night, ask me about it and I'll tell you!

I'm going to be honest, under normal circumstances I don't get giddy to see bands. But, for the last couple weeks I've had a boner for this little noise rock band from SoCal called The Mae Shi. I heard of them sorta late in '08, but no one really cares who found out about a band first anymore. So I've been playing them non stop on Rhapsody over and over and over...I can't believe how good they are. Very ...Trail of Deadish noise rock, maybe even Cold War Kidsish (but thats a bit of a stretch) Mates of State also come to mind. It's really hard to describe an opinion of music in words, well it is for me because i'm not very articulate. But who cares, I'll ramble until you get the point so one way or another you'll come to the same conclustion. The Mae Shi rock. The brought one of those parachutes with them and opened it up over the crowd at Popscene. You know the very same parachute you played with in 2nd grade, the one that gave you nightmares of carnies and clowns...Damn you Mrs. Tobin, it was even worse that my 2nd grade teacher was a midget...er uh horizontally challenged. So The Mae Shi were amazing live...go see them when you can...listen to them right now and here:

Gaslight Anthem

I'm not easily addicted to anything...except that Elmer's paste I would eat growing up. Maybe thats why my brain is broken, or it could be from that nasty meth habit I had in the 8th grade. Anyway, I'm way off track. Shifting focus to the blog at hand, Gaslight Anthem. These guys first cd was ehhh at best, so I wasn't expecting what I experienced with their latest disc "the '59 sound". It was like being punched in the face by Bruce Springsteen himself. The vocal effects and the recording quality are both reminiscent of The Boss. GA pulls out all the stops on this one, great storytellers, the harmony is there, they sound tight, and the tracks on the cd are arranged perfectly. The one-two punch at the start with Great Expectations and the title track lassos you and pulls you in...then when the cd repeats you're stoked all over again. Glasvegas came all the way from Scotland to play a show in San Francisco. Well, ok, they're on tour actually. Anyway, for a band without a Domestic realase of their debut cd they sure have a gigantic cavernous magenta tour bus, fully equipped with and Opie and Anthony sticker on the drivers window, placed in the reflection of the mirror so he can revel in all the grandeur of extreme rock radio. Into the club, I love popscene. I love it for the fact that the shows there attract the most interesting crowds. my favorite popscene character is the asian guy with the bleach blonde beach boy hair cut and his black and white striped shirt, he can dance better than anyone else in the room. The way he slides his feet around throwing punches like he was reenacting a jet li movie in slow motion, all without misplacing a single bleach blonde hair.

Then there was this guy...the one who almost kissed me on accident. Har Har Har make your gay joke here, ok. done? ok. so anyway he was in front of me taking pictures for his friends "annoying drunk whore" and "so heterosexual he's homosexual" with their annoyngly super bright flash and that stupid red eye reduction light shinging right in my retina like that laser pointer that blinded my left eye in junior high. fuck you Mark Clifford, you're just pissed that I passed the third grade and you didn't. anyway so when the douche bag spins around to find the bathroom he ends up standing eyelash to eyelash (thats also explaining how close we were, for my slow readers), and rather than just keep going and either kiss me or continue on to the left in tranit to the bathroom, he chooses neither and just stays this close for about 5 mississippi and then goes left for the bathroom. Oh well, I guess I'll get him next time.

As Glasvegas begin, the crowd pushes in, the old people stand in the back where it smells like ben gay and diesel exhaust from their Super Mega Ultra Tour Bus. Their light show was perfect, floor mounted multiple flashing colored bulbs strobing to the music. I'll be honest, I love shoegazer on cd...but not so much live. Don't get me wrong they aren't bad, in fact they're really really really good, i just don't like to be confused between dancing and crying in public places where 18 year old girls can pass judgement on me. Anyway they play a few songs, the track I first heard from them a year or so ago, Geraldine, and they wrap up with a stellar cover of The Ronettes "Be My Baby". Awesome set Glasvegas, Internet Blog High Five!

Then the scurry takes place. 300 people run for one door, ok so they jog somewhat briskly. All I want to do is say bye to Spud and Miles and go but the great wall of popscene is blocking my exit...now its an awkward "the music is way too loud to know what the other is saying but you nod and jib an answer back" goodbye. the end.

the only thing you missed was the blue Dodge Charger that tried to acost Spud.

Holy Torpedoes...New Zealand is cool for more than just Flight of the Conchords! I'm not too sure where the dance scene is going in NZ but there is one band that caught my attention today. They're called "Bang Bang Eche". Think late Blood Brothers or Test Icicles on Valium, they are not quite as spastic energy-wise but they do have some songs that are just out there. They have a free ep on their myspace and a few other songs you can listen to before making that major wallet emptying purchase of their free ep. May I suggest the track "Nikee" its the last song in their player.

Now are these guys the next big thing, I don't know...nor do I care. Thats not what this is about, its about me introducing you to music you've yet to hear and may like. I think this band has a bright future and if you like them please search them out and buy their music so they'll come to the U.S.!

Ok so the music industry isn't doing so well. The Radio industry isn't doing so well either. So how is it that you're going to get your music now? How do you find new music? It's all there on the internet, but if you don't know what you're looking for how do you find it? Maybe you'll be lucky and the stars will align and introduce you to the Fleet Foxes or maybe you read something in a Weekly about Glasvegas...is luck really all that reliable when you're jonesing for some new music? I've been addicted to Rhapsody for about a year, its pretty good about recommending contemporaries (RIYL)...but what it lacks is opinion. Ok so band A is similar to band B, but band A totally owns while band B sucks worse than that girl in high school with the big teeth. I guess what i'm getting at is I'm going to take it upon myself to post music and videos here in hopes that having an immensly popular blog riddled with said media will somehow save the music industry. It won't, but don't tell me that...just let me continue living the lie.

I will be making an attempt to post weekly, and each week there will be one song and one video minimum...shall we begin???

alright, its been almost a year since my last confession, uh i mean blog. sorry. a lot has happened, but lets skip that and talk in the now. not much is going on. its finals in school, they suck, got a new car, yay bills, and been listening to some good music. pick up the saul williams recording (mp3 only, but its free so quit complaining) check out Soko on youtube/myspace, glasvegas too (they are going to be huge, i hope) and pick up the klaxons cd if you haven't already. thats all for now, carry on.

is funny when you're drunk. last night was my first booty experience and it was pretty fun...I saw PB dance...and miles the intern makeout with Nikki from the action team. funtimes!! I was wasted, thanks Patrick for the cup of vodka...imagine one of the little keg cups half full of vodka now chug...yeah, drunk.

I'm on the radio a lot lately so you should tune in on your radio or your computer and laugh at my dumb remarks and hear me stutter and stumble over words, you'd think I'd be a gooder talker because I'm a radio superstar...but you're wrong.

worst show ever

no its not a WTR ploy...last nights show was the worst ever and heres why (consider it an apology to those who know me)

1.I went to the gym before going on air, big mistake to run for 35 minutes and lift for the first time in over a month...it made it tough to stay on track

2.our computer that pretty much runs the station, decided to shit out (luckily after the top 5 @ 9)

3.it was only 2 hours long so there was pretty much no salvaging the awfulness, you may not have noticed but I sure as hell did!!

I promise to be a better dj next time!!

on a side note, some of my friends from Bremerton, WA were listening, so that makes it a little better considering that they've heard me more on air than my own mother. not harshing on my moms, I love her, but she's never even heard me on the radio before, and no she does not have internet at her house so she can't even listen online!!

the other side note, I started taking a colon cleanser so if for some reason you see me running holding my stomache/ass make way otherwise it could be a messy interaction!!

i hate christmas. in all actuality the day isn't so bad. its the people that make it suck. you know the people who only think for themselves and have no concern for others. yeah, pretty much everyone in California. i now hate xmas for another reason. i used to hate it because i was treated to the most pety, dispicable behaviors from my family...now i hate the pety dispicable behaviors of everyone else. oh well, at least my steak and potatos were good, my tattoo didn't scab, i got a camcorder, made the girlfriend happy with my thoughtful gift, scored points with my mom for actually having a girlfriend she could address a card to and for buying her a plane ticket to visit me before we jet off to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.

Ok, here goes some music speak...this Dead to Me cd is fucking stellar. Cubana ballarina is its title and pretty much every track is good, I am a huge punk fan, but most bands have done nothing but dissapoint...I was the MD at a punk radio station a few years back and what a shitty time to be so...nothing was original (except Stray Bullets) and everything was garbage for the most part. This CD has rehashed my love of punk and I am happy to say I have made love to the little hole in the middle of the cd. twice.

I appreciate everything that hotel utah did to help me get my local showcases going...but they have the worst sound i have ever experienced in a venue. hands down. it sucks because I really like the place and the people there. do i do another show there? we'll see. kurtis was awesome, pidgen killed it, and tempo no tempo owned the show!! I'm really glad that everything came toghether and went without a hitch...i only wish for more people next time!!

I just realized that i think its worse to avoid the norm by going with a cliche that is so overplayed its hated more than had you gone with the norm...doesn't make sense, and it doesn't have to...its my blog. get your own blog if you like things that make sense, and quit bothering me. you're not bothering me, come back...read more. thanks.

Cleo is gay and does heroin and I am very disapointed in him. but he has reached the point of no return...he's done so many drugs that there is no way for him to ever contribute to society in a positive way. so i give him a dollar and some lemon water so i can watch the show...i call it the gay junkie downward spiral to death. death is so very chistmas...

I just got back from a rather timid trip to Seattle/Bremerton. I visited with my family a bit, got a new tattoo (my xmas present to myself!!), and saw a lot of my friends!! its always nice to get back into that comfort zone...

ok so night one Thursday the 14th-flight cancelled due to 70 mph winds...weak sauce

night two Friday the 15th-new tattoo for 4 hours, supposed to go drunken roller skating but the rink is out of power, like most of Bremerton. So we just get drunk, really drunk. I think that my tolerance for alcohol increases when I go home...

night three Saturday the 16th-xmas party at my friend Nicks new swanky apartment...heated pool, lingerie models living everywhere, yayo just flows from the faucets...oh thats my apartment, sorry i had a flashback...then to seattle to party with my radio homie from montana...we meet the dead babie biker club (seattles fucking coolest bicycle gang!!) head to a bday party where the jet city fix play (think foos/qotsa rock n roll) and then off to the whisky bar for $1 high lifes...my moustaches favorite beer!!

night four Sunday the 17th-we just sat around and watched movies and drank a few beers. pretty laid back...

i think this blog is dumb. no one cares what i did in seattle, you want to hear about the crackhead on my corner....

today cleo wanted a xmas holiday hug, i gave him one, and he kissed my neck, i swear sooner or later I am gonna get a handjob from him...i loathe the day he makes a pass at me for real. oh well...oh go buy the killswitch cd, its fantastic in your ears.
